Initial Drive Information Transmission Range Selection Mode The RangeSelection Mode switch is located on the shift lever. To enable the Range Selection feature, move the column shift lever to the M (Manual) position. The current range will appear next to the M. This is the highest attainable range with all lower gears accessible. As an example, when 3 (Third) gear is selected, 1 (First) through3 (Third) gears are available. Press the plus/minus buttons, located on the steering column shift lever, to select the desired range of gears for current driving conditions. Hybrid Features Hybrid Safety Information This vehicle has a standard 12-volt battery anda high-voltage hybrid battery. Only a trained service technician with the proper knowledge and tools should inspect, test, or replace the hybrid battery. See your dealer/retailer if the hybrid battery needs service. The 12-voltbattery cables, in the engine compartment, are clearly labeled. In emergency situations, first responders can cut those cables to disable the high-voltage hybrid battery system. …. Starting and Operating Your Vehicle Starting the Vehicle { WARNING: Exiting the vehicle, without first shifting into P (Park), may cause the vehicle to move, and you or others can be seriously injured. Because the vehicle has the Automatic Engine Start/Stop feature, the vehicle ‘s engine might seem to be shutoff when you come to a complete stop. However, once the brake pedal is released, the vehicle can move. The vehicle’s engine can also restart at anytime. Shift toP (Park) and turn the ignition to LOCK/ OFF, before exiting the vehicle. Start the engine as you would any other engine. See “Starting the Engine”in the owner manual for more information on starting. If pulling a trailer with trailer brakes, see Towing a Trailer on page 5?2 for more information.

Before ordering the kit I pre-measured, and figured about a five-foot hose run from the spin-on …

Rough measurements revealed the engine compartment of this 2004 Silverado was just too cramped to cleanly fit the BMK- 13 filter mount with EaO-15 and EaBP-90 Filters. I located a suitable vertical underbody “lip”, inside the frame on the driver’s side, back by the ABS EBCM/Hydraulic manifold (see photos). Before ordering the kit I pre-measured, and figured about a five-foot hose run from the spin-on filter adaptor to the chosen filter mount location and ordered extra hose. I used a BK-11 90-degree fitting kit for the hose to spin-on filter adaptor connection (see photos). I ended up using about 4′ 8″ of hose for each line, so eight feet might do the job with a little tighter routing. The location of the BMK-13 filter mount required the use of sheet metal screws to secure it to the underbody sheet metal, so I used a piece of 1/8″ thick aluminum bar stock as a backing plate. This beefed up the mount point by isolating the bracket from the underbody and providing more bite for the screws. Materials used for the install: · BMK-13 By-Pass Filter Kit · 1 – BK-11 90 degree fitting kit · 5 Feet of extra BP-188 hose · EaO-15 Full Flow Filter · EaBP-90 By-Pass Filter · Piece of 1/8″ aluminum bar stock, cut to fit · 6 – #12 x 1/2″ stainless steel sheet metal screws, for backing plate · 4 – #14 x 1″ stainless steel sheet metal screws, for mount bracket · Red and Blue Thread Locker · Series 2000 Synthetic 0W-30 Motor Oil to fill filters and top off The quality of the kit was top-notch, the instructions were excellent and I’m really pleased with the finished installation. Anyone with even modest mechanic skills should be able to install the BMK-13

A gasoline/electric hybrid model is also introduced in limited quantities this year. Basically a "mild" hybrid, the system provides no power boost, but does allow for automatic engine startup and shutdown at stops. This truck also comes with four 120-volt AC power outlets and is the only Silverado with rear disc brakes this year. The hybrid truck is only available in Western states and Florida.
